And they certainly don’t make them like this. Built around 1850 and nestled in one of funky North Hobart’s most sought-after streets, this beautifully restored convict cottage was our much-loved home for many years. Behind its charming convict brick façade lies a light-filled, surprisingly spacious interior that blends historic character with every modern comfort. The convict brick ensures that inside is very quiet and the courtyard is a private and secluded space with high walls. The home offers two generous bedrooms, plus a third room ideal as a child’s bedroom, nursery or study with a large cupboard and 2nd toilet. French doors open to a separate lounge, complete with a full wall library, while the fully renovated kitchen and dining area form the heart of the home. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with a 90cm Smeg oven, dishwasher and bespoke cabinetry with clever concealed storage for pantry items, washing machine and dryer and foldout ironing board. A separate laundry adds further practicality. Comfort is assured year-round with European gas hydronic heating throughout, making the home warm as toast in winter, while the original fireplace houses a large wood heater for cosy evenings. The stunning bathroom features a walk-in shower, and throughout the home you’ll find beautiful Tasmanian oak flooring, with carpet in the front bedrooms for added comfort. A folding staircase leads to a spacious attic, providing excellent extra storage. Lovely windows and skylights flood the cottage with natural light, with the added bonus of an uninterrupted outlook to our glorious kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Outside, a delightful and spacious courtyard is the perfect spot for entertaining or relaxing, complemented by a second private courtyard with an outdoor bath. The manageable front garden adds to the cottage’s charm, and off-street parking for one car is a rare and welcome bonus in this tightly held location. Just two streets from all the charms North Hobart has to offer—restaurants, cafes and the State Cinema—and only a five-minute walk to the Hobart CBD and Royal Hobart Hospital, this lovely cottage has long been let to professional medical staff who appreciate the convenience of walking to work. Despite its proximity to the Brooker Highway, this home is beautifully quiet. Private inspections are welcome after an initial telephone conversation.
